Addiction Therapy

I work with clients who are sober and need weekly support to dig into the reasons they were using. Often, the drug of choice is a symptom. The causes are stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, and relationship issues. Together, we will uncover the root causes of your addiction and work to address and heal them.

If someone in your family is struggling with addiction, I do provide Family Coaching that you can learn more about here:

Addiction recovery requires a strong support system. In addition to coming to weekly therapy sessions, I highly recommend that you find a community to join. See below for some options.

Communities to Join

Tempest Sobriety School, Refuge Recovery, and Alcoholics Anonymous are all great options. Tempest is online, while the other two groups are in person. SMART Recovery also has in-person meetings. Plus, there are places like Chicago Mindful Psychotherapy and Dr. Marla Kushner’s primary care office that run therapy groups weekly. Please reach out to me for resources for group support. I am located in Chicago, but do have colleagues in other major US cities. And I do recovery coaching and family coaching over the phone as well. One off phone sessions are $114.

Weekly Therapy for Addiction Recovery

Each week, you come in for an hour session to discuss how your recovery is going. Together, we will come up with your Action Steps for that week. These may include attending meetings, taking medications as prescribed, working out, meeting with a sober friend, doing a morning ritual, or taking a 10-minute walk each night. I am a firm believer that therapy must be client-led, so you will be in the driver’s seat. That being said, I love to challenge my clients on their thought processes and motivation.

Early recovery comes with many triggers, or things that make a person think about returning to using. Together, we will map out your triggers and create a Relapse Prevention Plan for each. I teach my clients mindfulness skills that they take with them daily to avoid relapse. Still, I am here if and when slip ups happen.

Cross-addiction

I also like to address cross-addiction with my clients. This is that awful wack-a-mole situation where you stop using alcohol, but now you are spending $1000s on online shopping. Together, we will address the root of your addiction — where the urge to numb or medicate your mood comes from — to decrease cross-addiction behaviors.

This is not the easiest path, but it is full of gifts: truth, clarity, and reaching your potential are all parts of sobriety. I am honored to walk this path with you.

Insurance

I am in-network with Blue Cross Blue Shield and United Healthcare. Sessions are $125/ 55-minute session. I can provide you with a superbill to submit to your insurance company if needed.

Recovery Coaching is another option.

This is done over the phone.
